The Petrolhead corner – The Speer of Koenigsegg Sadair grabs the most powerful Swedish blows

If there is one thing that say about Koenigsegg and the wild machines from the gates of their facilities in Agelholm, Sweden, from the gates of their facilities, then they are at the height of the engineering system. The Swedish Megacar manufacturer, which was founded in 1994 by Christian von Koenigsegg, is known to push the limits of performance and innovation back over the years to break countless speed records and increase the ante with every new car that is announced. And to our joy there is a story that we really love that can be compared to the watchmaker: as much as possible are made by development and production … in our own house! From the chassis to the engine to the hanging thread, trick gear and even the tissue of the carbon fiber, everything is carried out by Koenigsegg workers. The latest machine that goes on the street and the route is Sadair's spear, which is no less than 1,625 hp!

The goal of 22-year-old Christian von Koenigsegg, when he founded his own car company over three decades ago, was to build the world's largest sports car. The first concept was shown in 1996 and referred to as CC. However, it took until 2000 for the company to present the first fully developed production prototype, the CC8S. This was brought to the street in 2002, with an charged V8 engine performing 655 hp. At the time, these figures were quite unusual because the CC8S received the Guinness World Record for the most powerful production engine, which dethroned the legendary McLaren F1. With 6 cars it is now the rarest of Koenigseggs, but it was the first step to work out a unique and unprecedented automotive verge.

This was followed by cars such as CCR, CCX, CCXR and Agera, all of which are based on the same platform, but more and more “Koenigsegg”. By this I mean that the company found its own flair and, above all, made great progress in the production of various components under his own roof: the abandoned military airfield in Aargelholm, once the ghost squadron of the Swedish Air Force. The squadron's ghost bathe is also in all Koenigsegg cars to be built there to recognize the men and women during their service in similarelholm.

From hypercar to megacar

The thin red line from the earliest CC prototype to the latest Sadair's spear arrives on one thing: relentless innovation. It just sounds on paper, but what Koenigsegg has done is the rule book for the performance through many of its cars. It also redefined the concept of the super sports car and basically created the Hypercar class with its +1,000 hp machines. Hyper-exclusive cars such as the Bugatti Veyron and Pagani Zonda also had their hands, but Koenigsegg had a major impact on today's niche hypercar market. The company itself even goes so far as to call their cars megakare, since they almost always exceed the ratio of 1: 1 power-to-weight and essentially produce a megawatts of electricity or more (1,000 watts correspond to 1,360 hp). The first production car that breaks this barrier was also named appropriately: 1.

This innovation is expressed in Koenigsegg in many ways, from engine development to material innovation and from safety devices to aerodynamics and handling. Another large part of Koenigsegg's striving for appearance depends on the efficiency that sounds strange to such high -ranking machines, but they always want to try to get the best out of the least. How can you push forward by reducing your CO2 footprint, using more electricity from an engine or running on several fuel types? Outstanding developments are the direct drive system of the Regera (see above), which fails without a conventional multiple transmission in favor of a single system with a fixed corridor. The company also developed an ultra-fast 9-speed dual clutch transmission, an 800 hp, 1,250 nm dark matter radial flux electric motor with a weight of less than 40 kilos and much more. And remember that all of this is developed and manufactured in your own house!

But you cannot talk about Koenigsegg, without mentioning speed. The CC8S set the benchmark for everything that was after a recognized top speed of 390 km / h. The CCR was tested at a top speed of 387 km / h, only shy what it can do on paper. The CCXR was the first to break 400 km / h, but the real claim to fame was the Agera RS. This monstrous, mighty car, which packed a 5.0-liter V8 twin turbo V8, which runs out with the megawatt package 1,360 hp, achieved amazing 457.94 km / h. And no, that's not a typo! It accelerated and slowed down faster than anything else. The run from zero to 400 km / h and back to zero was carried out in 33.29 seconds, almost 8 seconds faster than the Bugatti Chiron! This thirst for speed and performance continues with the Jesko, which is either available in a track focusing attack or in a high-speed-oriented absolute setup and is named after Christi's father, Jesko von Koenigsegg. Now there is a Jesko+, if you like, the Sadair's spear named

The record -breaking Koenigsegg Agera RS.

Management of performance

The name for Koenigsegg's latest machine machine comes from Christia's father again. Jesko von Koenigsegg was an enthusiastic gentleman jockey and an estimated member of the Swedish riding community. Koenigsegg Seniors' favorite and final racing horse was called Sadair's Speer, so that Christian closes the circle to celebrate his father again with Sadair's spear, who is a development of the Jesko absolute/attack concept. So that means Big Power and Big Aero! Oh, and while Shakedown it smashed the lap record on the Gotland Ring Circuit of Sweden.

With the Jesko platform, this means that we have to do with integrated fuel tanks for the Sadair spear with a carbon fiber and aluminum honeycomb monocoque chassis made in the house. This also contains a security cell, similar to a top animal racing car, and the zones of crumple zones at the front and back. The entire car, the engine and everything weighs only 1,385 kilos, which is quite impressive in view of the Tech participation. I mean, my Opel Insignia Estate weighs more than that! The body consists of carbon fiber and Kevlar, which of course also helps to keep the weight low, and for it it is ready in a chocolate brown color. And as with most cars from Koenigsegg, the doors of the Diedrale, the front and rear Clamshells open hydraulically, and you can remove the roof if you want.

The drive train is again the 5.0-liter twin turbo V8 of Jesko, but with a little more strength. Thanks to the improved air flow and cooling, it generates astonishing 1,625 hp on E85 fuel via the 1,600 hp of the Jesko. If you operate it with normal fuel, this falls to 1,300 hp. Nevertheless, I would be a lot of fun pulling your face, I would say! The engine is equipped with a light crankshaft with a flat level, a dry-swamp lubrication system, a carbon fiber suction manner and an inconel exhaust system. The engine itself weighs 189 kilos and is screwed to Koenigseggs 9-speed double clutch clutch gear transmission. This only sends the entire power supply to the rear wheels and through super-light Koenigsegg Aircore Carbon Faser-Center-Lock bikes, which are equipped with Michelin-Cup2 tires as standard. Incidentally, you can also donate extra-stuffy Michelin-Cup2Rs.

But where the Sadair spear really shines, the aerodynamics department is located. The Jesko already had some of the most advanced aerodynamic technologies on a street car, and the Sadair spear only builds on it. For the beginning, the top -mounted double leaf was redesigned active rear wing (impossible to overlook!) And gives even more downforce. It also has a slightly longer rear, the extended Venturi tunnel that runs under the car to put it down at the asphalt and to exist more stability. Then there are newly profiled canards, splinters and air rivers everywhere, redesigned aerial photographs and slots, etc. to channel the air below, including, around and through the car as much as possible. The result is astonishing 1,765 kg output at 250 km / h. To put this in the right light, the Aero-Crazy Porsche 911 GT3 RS only meets 860 kg at 285 km / h! The Koenigsegg doubles at a lower speed.

And yet there is more to speak. The newly designed carbon fiber wheels help, for example, to drive off and cool the brakes. Each wheel has a specially calibrated profile that is clear for every corner. So you cannot exchange them from left to right. The tires on the Sadair spear are also wider: 275/35-20 front and 335/30-21 behind. The suspension system has also been updated to improve handling, and the brakes are new multi-layer carbon ceramic discs with improved pads. Inside there are carbon fiber shovel seats with a 6-point racing strap and tons of styling cues that are unique for Sadair's spear.

What does this mean in terms of performance? And can you buy one? To answer this last question first, they cannot. All thirty cars were already around despite the price tag of around 5 million euros When everything is said and done. Then the speed … from the Swedish crew does not get much of a top speed of 360 km / h on your website. No zero-to-100 km / h times, no intermediate acceleration times, no nothing. The only thing they said so far is that it smashed the round record in the Gotland ring, as I mentioned. How much do you ask Well, 1.1 seconds to be precise. Do you order what car, on the expenses? The Jesko attack, of course!
