First look – the Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pilot Pioneer Mechanical Chronograph Now in Blau

Before Hamilton became a Swiss brand and part of the Swatch Group, he was an American watchmaker who was known for his military collections for domestic and allied forces. In the 1970s, Hamilton continued this tradition with a chronograph for the British RAF (Royal Air Force), which is known as a Fab Four Watch with a characteristic asymmetrical case. The latest model of the Khaki Aviation Pilot Pioneer Mechanical Chronograph 40 mm is a modern but loyal new edition of this watch, which now replaces a Blue Sunray dial that really complements the steel case.

The padded stainless steel housing is well with the polished Pushers and the crown and has a diameter of 40 mm and a height of 14.3 mm (47 mm jerk-to-lug approx.). A box-shaped sapphire crystal offers distortion in angles such as vintage acrylic, but is now very scratch-resistant with double anti-reflecting coatings. The asymmetrical shape of the housing is almost identical to the original of the 1970s and only 1 mm larger, with the same reinforcement on the right side, which recovers the push/pull crown and protection for protection. The fallback is solid and the water resistance was also modernized at 100 meters. There are two 22 -mm strap options: a brown leather strap with a monastery snap and a steel network bracelet with a folding lock.

The black dial of the 2022 model has been updated on Sunray Blue and offers a little more modern aesthetics, while it remains true to its roots. Arabic digits surround the circumference with 12 and 6 printed a little larger, and the digits and hours/minute hands have white super-luminova in white class X1, which is more contemporary than the old radium super luminova on the somewhat older black dial. This is a bi-compax chronograph with a 30-minute counter at 3 a.m. and small seconds at 9 a.m., functionally identical to the original model of the 1970s.

The latest Khaki Aviation Pilot Pioneer Mechanical Chronograph is the H-51-SI-CAM-Lever chronograph based on ETA 7753. It has 27 jewels, beats 28,800 VPH (4Hz) and has a 60-hour power reserve. The functions include central hours, minutes and chronograph seconds, 30-minute counter and small seconds. This is a real non-datum movement and has an anti-timing and shock-resistant silicon picture grill, which is more advanced than the Nivarox counter from the 1970s.

Hamilton's new Khaki Aviation Pilot Pioneer Mechanical Chronograph for CHF 1,995 or EUR 2,295 on the leather strap and CHF 2,075 or EUR 2,365 on the steel mixing strap. Not bad for a modern new edition of a famous chronograph with modern upgrades. For more information and to make a purchase, please visit the Hamilton website.
