First look – the Oris Big Crown 40 mm pointer date X Cervo Volante

The Big Crown pointer date, which was borrowed from the first serial pilot guard in 1938, including the oversized crown and the indication of the pointer date. 1984 by General Manager Dr. Rolf Portmann reintroduced when Nostalgia could appear for mechanical watches with a dash of aviation history, the large crown -time date was largely responsible for the survival of the brand after the quartz crisis. Today the large large crown family has branched in various directions with contemporary models and more vintage-inspired references. The latest edition is a collaboration with Cervo Volante, a Swiss company that produces sustainable and vegetable deer leather belts. The dial marks the elements of the old school and bursts with a rich autumn color.

While Oris has introduced a brisk contemporary crown pointer dates with flat bezel and trendy colorful times, the “original” model with its corrugated bezel, the cathedral and the red -pipped pointer date takes the price. To be fair, the corrugated bezel was a later addition and was not to be seen on the original pilot watches from 1938, but it adds a great retro fitting board.

The classic big crown pointer was available in steel and bronze and has played with color in the past, including the attractive oxblood red, but perhaps with more moderation than the new generation. According to Cervo Volante, around 15,000 red deer are selected in Switzerland to protect the Alpine forests every year. Instead of letting her skins waste, Cervo Volante transforms them into high -quality deer blind goods, including wax straps. In earlier cooperation, Cervo Volante made a strap for the 38 -mm housing available. In order to complement the dial color, the new deer plate has a rich mahogany brown color for the 40 -mm housing.

The new diales for burned maple gradients are beautifully released the clock's vintage notes. The orange transitions via the fat reddish-in-case color in the middle of the dial over the periphery switch to a darker, more intense burned color and create a striking but warm autumn dial. The cathedral-shaped hands and the typography selected for the Arabic digits are a pilot watch on the old school pilot box and with super-luminova. The additional hand for the calendar has the reverse arrow pointer, which was selected in Forest Green. The dial is protected by a arched anti-reflecting sapphire crystal.

Oris has selected a larger size of 40 mm stainless steel with a thickness of 12.2 mm for the Cervo Volante cooperation. The coin -cut bezel, the extra large measuring crown and the housing flanks are polished in contrast to the brushed tabs. As with other references in the family, water resistance is rated at 50 meters.

The Oris 754-caliber, an automatic movement based on the Sellita SW 200-1 (a clone of the ETA 2824) with a pointer datum module, has the Signature Redor of the brand, works at 28,800 VPH and stores a 41-hour electricity reserve.

The Oris X Cervo Volante is delivered with a deer barrel travel bag. It is now available and available for CHF 2,250. Further information at oris.ch.
