Independent watchmakers love a good origin story, and Vanguart has one. The brand was founded in 2017 by APRP graduates Axel Leuenberger and Jérémy Freléchox, designer Thierry Fischer and F1 insider Mehmet Korutürk and debuted the Black Hole Tourbillon in 2021. This first watch featured a floating flying tourbillon, concentric automaton disks that rotate time around a central cavity, and a joystick-style time setting system. Since then, with pieces like the Orb, Vanguart has doubled down on this language, honing in on a very specific aesthetic: sculptural cases, technical dials and movements that borrow the architecture of Grande Sonnerie and chiming clocks to power their semi-instantaneous displays. Dubai Watch Week 2025 has become the site of the next chapter as the Black Hole collection expands with two new references: the Black Hole Arabic Numerals in titanium and the Black Hole Rose Gold. We will look at the latter in detail here.

The new Black Hole Rose Gold uses the advanced Black Hole case, which combines the case and movement in a single flowing volume. It measures 45 mm diagonally, but thanks to the lugless design and integrated bracelet, it can be worn more like a 42 mm watch on the wrist. The thickness is 15.75mm, which sounds substantial but fits very well with the kind of conceptual tourbillon it houses. For the Black Hole Arabic Numerals, the case is made of grade 5 titanium and weighs just 80 grams. The exoskeleton is micro-blasted with polished bevels, and the “hull”, the central body of the watch, is also micro-blasted to give the look an understated and technical look. The joystick crowns and flowing openings emphasize the idea of a hollowed-out gravity shell around the movement.
The Black Hole Rose Gold edition has the same shape and is made of solid rose gold, weighing 173 grams. Here the exoskeleton is still microblasted with polished bevels, but the central fuselage is fully polished. Both models retain the fully integrated architecture that made the original so striking. On both watches, the dial side is essentially an extension of the movement: an anthracite PVD construction made from Grade 5 titanium with concentric, concave discs radiating out from the floating tourbillon. These three levels form the automaton display: the discs rotate to produce a linear, semi-instantaneous time display, with forward and backward movement controlled by the joystick system.

The Black Hole's Arabic numerals use Eastern Arabic symbols, while the Black Hole Rose Gold edition sticks to the Western-style markings on its display. The anthracite PVD titanium dial is micro-blasted and satin-finished, with hand-painted indicators, but the focus shifts from graphic information to pure form, light and depth.

The Vanguart Black Hole Rose Gold features the same flying tourbillon caliber that defined the original Black Hole. Consisting of 775 components, it combines a floating flying tourbillon placed high and centrally in the architecture and a concentric three-tier automaton dial with linear time display. A Grande Sonnerie-inspired twin barrel design separates the timekeeping from the display, and a high-precision joystick with forward and reverse indicators is used to set the time. A vertical power reserve indicator allows a quick visual reading of the “useful” power reserve of 42 hours.

Motherboard and bridges are constructed of grade 5 micro-blasted titanium with satin and block-polished surfaces and extensive hand-beveled edges. In the Black Hole Rose Gold version, the titanium movement components are treated with gold PVD, which transfers the heat from the case into the caliber.

The Black Hole Arabic Numers is worn on a sand-colored rubber strap; The rose gold model comes with an anthracite rubber strap. Each reference is limited to 8 pieces. The price of the Black Hole Arabic Numerals edition is 355,000 francswhile the Black Hole is Rose Gold 410,000 francs. For more information, visit vanguart.com.
