Panerai's Luminor Marina family has long represented the essence of the brand's modern identity, a bridge between its historic naval roots and modern tool watch technology. Earlier this year at Watches and Wonders 2025, the Florentine brand reinvigorated the Luminor Marina line with a new generation of steel and titanium models with improved construction, refined ergonomics and the in-house automatic caliber P.980. Now Panerai is extending this development to one of its most iconic materials: bronze. The Luminor Marina Bronzo PAM01678 is the first to use this alloy in this iconic collection; From a brand that pioneered the use of bronze in modern watchmaking, this seems a natural progression.

Panerai's affinity for bronze began back in 2011 with the now almost cult-classic Luminor Submersible 1950 Bronzo PAM00382, which helped spark the industry's fascination with living metals. True to this heritage, the new PAM01678 uses Panerai's proprietary bronze alloy of pure copper and tin, which is said to form a protective patina over time. This slow evolution gives each watch a unique personality while maintaining the material's strength and corrosion resistance – properties that made bronze essential for its first naval applications.

Measuring 44mm, the new PAM01678 brushed bronze case features the new Luminor Marina proportions introduced earlier this year: the watch is slimmer (13.7mm) and lighter, yet unmistakably bold. The well-known crown protection bridge is still a characteristic feature and ensures the safety of the movement and ensures high water resistance up to 500 m. The titanium case back carries a sapphire crystal window into the movement.

The matte blue gradient dial reflects the sea-inspired spirit of the design in Panerai's signature sandwich construction, which progresses from a deep navy blue at the edges to a lighter blue in the center, complementing the warm bronze tones. Beige Super-LumiNova fills the cut-out Arabic numerals and hands for easy legibility in the dark, while the small seconds subdial at 9 o'clock maintains the functional symmetry of the series. For a clean, historically accurate layout, the dial does not indicate a date.

The new PAM01678 is powered by the Caliber P.980, an automatic 3-day movement from the Richemont Group, developed and tested in Neuchâtel. It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a pendulum balance bridge for increased stability, a stop-seconds function and six-position regulation.

The watch is worn on a blue calfskin strap with beige stitching, closed with a brushed bronze-colored trapezoid clasp, and an additional blue rubber strap. Available from December 2025, the Luminor Marina Bronzo PAM01678 is a natural evolution of Panerai's material storytelling, a timepiece that combines the brand's maritime heritage with its modern technological edge. Price is 17,000 euros or $17,500. For more information, visit panerai.com.
