With the Inverto Titanium, the independent watch atelier Lederer refines the Central Impulse Chronometer InVerto 2023, a large 44 mm watch with a blackened case, into a compact, titanium-framed display of one of the most sophisticated escapement architectures in modern watchmaking. It is the culmination of forty years of mechanical experimentation, distilled into 39mm of pure chronometric artistry, the dramatic concept of which is fully showcased through an inverted caliber.
Independent watchmaker Bernhard Lederer, founder of Lederer Watches, is one of the leading technical voices in modern watchmaking. As a founding member of the AHCI (Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants), Lederer has spent over four decades researching escapement innovations. His work is characterized by precision, restraint and mastery of the balance between technical function and aesthetic form. The basis for this new watch lies in Lederer's groundbreaking creation: the Central Impulse Chronometer (CIC), which was first introduced in 2020. Inspired by George Daniels' independent double wheel escapement, Lederer's version refined the design, reduced friction and added two constant force remontoirs, resulting in one of the most efficient and stable chronometer movements ever built.

The CIC was first introduced in 44mm size, followed in 2023 by the 39mm CIC, a smaller, more portable interpretation of the same concept. That same year, Lederer introduced the Central Impulse Chronometer Inverto, a dramatic reinterpretation in which the movement was relocated to the dial side. Originally conceived as a one-off for the Only Watch 2023, the Inverto (available in the black DLC as a limited edition of 18 pieces) featured the entire caliber on the watch's dial, a concept that proved so compelling that it would form the basis for this year's Lederer Inverto Titanium.

The Inverto Titanium continues this exploration with a smaller, lighter and even more sophisticated version. The CIC 39's 39mm case, now made from grade 5 titanium, retains the heavily domed sapphire crystal, a signature Lederer design that gently curves along the case's sides, visually merging with the metal and emphasizing the three-dimensional structure beneath. With a height of 10.5 mm, it is comfortable to wear despite its sculptural construction. The finishing alternates between satin and mirror shine. The watch remains waterproof up to 30 m.
There is no traditional dial as the movement becomes the stage. Every wheel, drum and remontoir is visible beneath the crystal, creating a very kinetic impression. The blued, skeletonized hour and minute hands float above the exposed gear trains and double escapements, ensuring good legibility and at the same time a clear view of the mechanics. The back is more reserved and features an engraved motif inspired by the movement's blueprint and a small seconds display whose rhythm reflects the 15-second interval of the remontoirs.

The Lederer caliber 9019, an inverted development of the Central Impulse Chronometer's dual movement, powers the watch. This sophisticated double escapement design is inspired by the Gafner system, a 1930s constant force mechanism based on a triangular Reuleaux ruby cam and developed by Robert Gafner of La Chaux-de-Fonds. Lederer has refined this principle by reducing unlocking resistance and stabilizing the balance amplitude to achieve outstanding chronometric precision and mechanical symmetry.

Composed of over 200 components, the Caliber 9019 features two independent barrels and two gear trains to ensure perfectly balanced energy distribution. Two constant force remontoirs deliver controlled bursts of energy every 15 seconds, ensuring consistent torque from start to finish. Two detent escape wheels alternately deliver impulses to the balance wheel, reducing friction and increasing stability.

With 21,600 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 38 hours, the 9019 is visually symmetrical and functionally precise. Almost all components are produced, finished and assembled in-house. Finishing includes angulating, black polishing, circular graining and satin finishing, all done by hand.

The Inverto Titanium is available with either a blue calfskin or rubber strap, each paired with a titanium pin buckle. It is not a numbered limited edition, but production remains naturally limited due to the brand's small-scale manufacturing. The price for the Lederer Inverto Titanium is 152,000 francs.
