Armin Stroms The acclaimed Gravity Equal Force series is expanding with an elegant variant: the Ultimate Sapphire Salmon. This latest edition continues the brand's exploration of color and transparency, combining technical mastery with craft finesse. It features a hand-guilloched salmon mainplate and the brand's innovative constant force caliber, bringing new life to one of the most inventive movements in modern watchmaking.
The independent Swiss manufacturer Armin Strom builds its creations so that every component of a fine watch is seen, understood and admired. The Biel-based brand, founded in 1967 by Serge Michel and master watchmaker Claude Greisler and revived in 2009, combines traditional handcraft with innovative technical ideas. The System 78 collection, named after the partners' shared year of birth, represents the brand's pursuit of uncompromising innovation made available to collectors of independent watchmaking.

First introduced in 2019, the Gravity Equal Force (GEF) marked a milestone in modern watchmaking. It was the world's first automatic watch with a stop-disengagement mechanism integrated into the barrel, an innovation that ensures consistent torque and stable accuracy across the entire power reserve. Beyond its mechanical intelligence, the GEF also introduced a distinctive aesthetic language: an off-center sapphire sub-dial revealing the key components of the movement, barrel, gear train, micro-rotor, arranged with pocket watch-inspired finger bridges.

Since its debut, GEF has evolved through numerous limited editions that highlight color, craftsmanship and collaboration. Our third Montre de Souscription, the MONOCHROME x Armin Strom Gravity Equal Force Maillechort, highlighted traditional German silver tones; The Ultimate Sapphire Blue, Purple and Rosé Gold editions brought vibrant new color palettes, each hand-guilloched in Kari Voutilainen's Comblémine atelier. Now the new Gravity Equal Force Ultimate Sapphire Salmon brings a warm, luxurious touch to this ongoing series.

The Gravity Equal Force Ultimate Sapphire Salmon retains the familiar 41mm stainless steel case with a height of 12.65mm and the brand's signature lip at 6 o'clock. Alternating polished and brushed surfaces emphasize the lines, while anti-reflective sapphire crystals on both sides fully showcase the caliber. The salmon-colored PVD motherboard with a hand-guilloched delicate barleycorn pattern by Kari Voutilainen gives this new model its name.

The architecture of the watch unfolds like a mechanical landscape: the microrotor at one o'clock, the barrel with equal power at five o'clock and the gear train that connects them. On the gray-tinted sapphire time dial (with integrated small seconds), the rhodium-plated hands with Super-LumiNova filling ensure clear readability.

The mechanism we see on the front and back is the Armin Strom Caliber ASB19, an in-house automatic movement based on the patented Equal Force Barrel. Using a Geneva stop system and a disengagement mechanism inside the barrel, the ASB19 transmits a constant force to the escapement, maintaining amplitude stability and improving isochronism over its 72-hour power reserve.

The movement beats at 25,200 vibrations per hour and has a screw balance with four regulating screws for fine adjustment. As with every Armin Strom caliber, every component is machined by hand in the brand's Biel factory and assembled twice. Finishing details include polished bevels, Geneva stripes, perlage and black polished screws, all finished to haute horlogerie standards.

The Gravity Equal Force Ultimate Sapphire Salmon is worn on a gray nubuck leather strap with matching stitching and fastens with a stainless steel folding clasp. The watch is limited to 25 pieces per year and is available at the same price 27,500 CHF.
