Introducing Arnold & Son Perpetual Moon 41.5 Year of the Horse

To celebrate the upcoming Chinese Year of the Horse, which begins on February 17, 2026, Arnold & Son presents a limited edition of eight Perpetual Moon watches. Celebrating its sixth consecutive year of editions dedicated to Chinese New Year, Arnold & Son is dedicated to its captivating Perpetual Moon reference, presented in a 41.5mm red gold case with a vibrant dial crafted using a range of artisanal techniques.

Chinese New Year is determined by the traditional lunar calendar and each lunar year is represented by one of 12 animals assigned to one of the 10 celestial tribes (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water). This year marks the start of the Year of the Fire Horse, whose personality has been artfully captured on the dial of the Perpetual Moon – a fitting choice for an occasion so intertwined with the cycles of the moon.

Introduced in 2013, the Perpetual Moon shifts the traditional moon phase aperture from 6 o'clock to display the moon in all its glory in a large 29mm window that spans the dial from 10 to 2 o'clock. Not only is the aperture large, the realistic hand-engraved 11.2mm moon also exerts its attraction to great effect.

The Year of the Horse comes in a luxurious 41.5mm polished rose gold case and captures the horse's fiery personality with incredible realism on the dial. Hand-engraved in rose gold and applied to the dial, the horse's muscular three-dimensional anatomy is bursting with energy and incredible detail. Set against the backdrop of a sparkling black aventurine night sky, the dial's scene is reminiscent of volcanic terrain, with dark basalt rocks hand-engraved and painted and gold powder to create the trail of fiery red sparks left by the rearing horse. For a particularly dramatic effect, the embers are treated with red and yellow Super-LumiNova and glow in the dark.

The radiant mother-of-pearl moon, with its realistic hand-painted shadows, waxes and wanes in a star-studded black aventurine glass sky, with the constellations Cassiopeia and Ursa Major depicted with larger stars. The hand-painted constellations reference John Arnold's historic marine chronometers, precision timepieces used on board to calculate a ship's longitude by observing celestial bodies. Like the fiery embers, the moon and constellations are highlighted with Super-LumiNova. The hours and minutes are indicated by faceted hands and hour markers.

With a deviation of just one day every 122 years, the precise astronomical moon phase display has a factory setting system. Traditional moon phases are usually adjusted using the crown and it is difficult to get the moon's position exactly right. To counteract this common problem, A&S has added a second moon phase display with a precise scale and cycle representations on the caseback for particularly precise phase adjustment. Equipped with the hand-wound caliber A&S1512, the twin barrels offer a remarkable power reserve of 90 hours, and the movement and its first-class finishes are visible through the sapphire crystal case back.

Considered the luckiest number in Chinese tradition, the Year of the Horse is a limited edition of eight copies. It is paired with a black alligator leather strap with red lining and an 18k red gold tang buckle. The Perpetual Moon 41.5 red gold Year of the Horse retails CHF 62,600 (VAT included.).
