First look – The new TAG Heuer Carrera Split-Seconds Chronograph

We knew this was coming… Ever since TAG Heuer introduced the Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph in 2024, it seemed inevitable that the brand's advanced Rattrapante chronograph movement would join the Carrera line. Now that moment has come. The new TAG Heuer Carrera Split-Seconds Chronograph brings the Rattrapante complication to the Carrera range, packaged in a high-tech titanium case and manufactured to haute horlogerie standards. Introduced at LVMH Watch Week in Milan alongside the new 41mm glassbox chronographs with the refined signature glassbox sapphire design, this 42mm split-seconds model sits at the top of the line. It impresses with its combination of iconic design elements and modern craftsmanship.

The case design stays true to the signature formula, with pointed lugs, a clean look and racing functionality, but here everything feels sharper, more muscular and more aggressive. The 42mm case is made entirely of grade 5 titanium with satin and polished finishes and is 15.17mm thick. The characteristic Glassbox sapphire crystal is almost seamlessly integrated into the middle case and fuses crystal and metal into a continuous shape. A discreet pusher at 9 o'clock operates the split-seconds mechanism, while the chronograph's rectangular start/stop and reset pushers flank the titanium crown. A sapphire crystal case back presents the movement. The water resistance is 30 m.

The translucent sapphire dial immediately sets this Carrera apart from the rest of the line. It is not skeletonized in the traditional sense, but allows you to see the mechanics without losing the classic layout. Three sapphire crystal subdials, for the chronograph minute display at 3 o'clock and the hour display at 9 o'clock, with red markers and hands and running seconds at 6 o'clock, are mounted on the same level, providing depth and a three-dimensional appearance. The anthracite flange features a tachymeter scale that follows the curvature of the crystal, preventing parallax errors. The rhodium-plated indices and the openwork hour and minute hands are filled with white Super-LumiNova. Of particular note are the central chronograph hand in white and the split-second hand in red lacquer. The dial looks legible, modern and very Carrera.

The caliber TH81-01 is a variant of the Monaco split-second movement TH81-00. Built with the Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier, it is an automatic split-seconds chronograph that beats at 36,000 vibrations per hour and has a power reserve of 65 hours (or 55 hours with the chronograph switched on). The movement consists of over 350 components and features titanium bridges to reduce weight.

The finish is higher than most TAG Heuer models: hand-beveled edges, black polished screws and the brand's hand-engraved checkered flag motif on the plates. The column wheel ensures precise pusher movement. TAG Heuer's shield-shaped rotor, brushed and painted with a red gradient, gives the rear view a distinctive look.

The Carrera Split-Seconds Chronograph is worn on a black rubber strap with an embossed textile pattern and red stitching and closes with a titanium folding clasp. Available from June 2026, the watch will join Carrera's permanent collection at a price of CHF 110,000. Further details and information can be found at TAGHeuer.com.
