Introducing the new Dawn Blue Credor GCCR995 locomotive

Introducing the new Dawn Blue Credor GCCR995 locomotive

Two years ago, Credor, the upscale and classic side of Seiko Watch Corporation, introduced a very special watch based on the Locomotive concept. Once designed by none other than Gerald Genta, this watch was first introduced in 1979 before returning in a modernized and limited version for the brand's 50th anniversary in 2024. Last year, Credor introduced a green dial version of the Locomotive, the reference GCCR997, this time as part of the permanent collection. A new addition is the reference GCCR995 with a new dial in “Dawn Blue”, a classic color for the luxury sports watch genre.

The modern Credor locomotive is a faithful replica of Gérald Genta's original sketch from 1978. While Genta is best known for designing the legendary Royal Oak, Nautilus and Ingenieur models, his creative vision reached far beyond Europe. Frequent visits to Japan led to a friendship with Reijiro Hattori of Seiko, who invited him to design a distinctive watch for Credor, part of Seiko's portfolio. The result was the locomotive, which was first presented to the public in 1979.

After the limited gray edition GCCR999 and last year's green permanent model GCCR997, both made of titanium and equipped with the same technical basis, it is time for the release of a third version. The latest edition with reference GCCR995 is all about the dial color, everything else we know from the “new” locomotive has been retained. Therefore, it retains the same 38.8mm x 8.9mm hexagonal case made of high-intensity titanium with a water resistance of 100m, dominated by a hexagonal geometry found on the bezel and secured with six hexagonal screws, as well as by the ribbed crown with a hexagonal motif. The case back is still closed and the dial is protected by a sapphire crystal.

Speaking of the dial: This is where things get different. The new GCCR995 Locomotive is based on the same pattern as the Green Edition, with its textured pattern of small hexagons, each finished with a striped, woven surface, creating a shimmering honeycomb effect. It introduces a so-called “Dawn Blue” tone, a classic of the genre with a twist. It's not as dark as one typically finds on luxury sports watches, but rather “evokes the pale blue sky at the hour when the long night ends and a new day begins, suggesting the locomotive's bright future.” This soft color is still combined with the same framed date window and “baignoire-shaped” applied markers and hands (a classic of Genta’s design language).

Inside the titanium case is the Credor-exclusive automatic caliber CR01, based on the slim Seiko 6L35 architecture. It has 26 jewels, operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of 45 hours. The integrated bracelet made of high-intensity titanium reflects the design of the watch. It starts almost as wide as the case and then tapers slightly to the triple clasp with a push button closure. Its hexagonal center links reinforce the geometric theme of the clock.

The new Credor Locomotive Dawn Blue GCCR995 will be available from June 2026 and is expected to be part of the permanent collection 1,980,000 JPYslightly more than last year's green version (which was 1,870,000 JPY). The international price is not yet known. For more information, visit Credor.com.
