First look – The new Grand Seiko Sunrise Tentagraph Limited Edition SLGC006

The Tentagraph, which was published in 2023 in 2023, was Grand Seiko's first mechanical chronograph. I know it sounds strange to a brand with about 65 years of history, but all of its chronographs used to be based on a jumping drive architecture (Calibres 9R86 and 9R96) until the start of the SLGC001. With the Evolution 9 platform, the Tentaggraph combined the updated design language with an innovative automatic basic movement. Follow the initial dark blue Edition, the ice blue SLGC007 and the polarization Tokyo Lion Tentagraph SLGC009, now it is time for the Sunrise Tentatgraph Limited Edition SLGC006 to join the mechanical chronograph of the GS ranks.

The new Sunrise Tentagraph SLGC006 is a development of both the SLGC001 and the SLGC007 models, since the SLGC009 is clearly exchanged by its much sharper case design despite the same movement. Therefore, we look at a considerable sports station that is classic from Grand Seiko in terms of proportions and design. Apart from that, the Zeltatgraph is a more beautiful watch on the wrist than all previous chronograph models with a diameter of over 44 mm and a thickness of 16 mm.

The case of the GS Sunrise Tentagraph made of titanium with high intensity (equivalent with titanium of the 5th grade) measures 43.2 mm diameter, 15.3 mm thickness and 51.5 mm long. It seems to be big on paper and is large on the wrist, but Evolution 9 collection has also redefined ergonomics, and it feels in this watch with a lower center of gravity and a profile that hugs the wrist well. The housing is classic with mainly brushed surfaces and tsarate -polished accents, a box -shaped sapphire crystal above, a screwed sapphire housing and a screwed crown that guarantees a comfortable water resistance of 100 m.

While the SLGC006 keeps the most technical and design elements of other Tentagraph models, including the black ceramic bezel with tachymeter scale, it also brings several 18k rosé gold accents, including the crown and the Pushers as well as a new frame around the bezel. These golden elements are quite discreet and mix well into the darker tone of Titan and repeats the colors that can be found on the new dial.

In fact, this sunrise center opens a new, more striking pattern and a new, bold color scheme, while it is part of the Mt. iWate area. A free interpretation of both the burr and the rough surface of this mountain and the classic Sunray push interface. The new Mt. Iwate pattern is deeper, richer in the texture. It is indeed based on the same idea as the ice blue SLGH027. In addition, Grand Seiko also presents a new color, a light (and fairly difficult to capture) copper tone, paired with Burgundy/brown sub-dials for the chronograph and a darker copper-race-sub-dial for the small seconds. All hands and applied markers are plated in rose gold and filled with luminescent material.

In the Sunrise Tentagraph SLGC006 there is the same Tentaggraph-Kaliber 9SC5 with a high fitting. It is based on the caliber 9SA5 and contains a chronograph module above, whereby the extraordinary performance is maintained. The Tentagraph works with a 5-Hz frequency (36,000 vibrations per hour) and has a double barrel layout that delivers a 72-hour current reserve. The movement also uses Grand Seiko's advanced dual impulse inhibition with a free balance with a medium daily rate from +5 to -3 seconds per day -if the chronograph is involved.

With the case, the bracelet of the sunrise center tangraph consists of titanium with high intensity and measures 22 mm on the lugs. It is due to a triple closure with the publication of push button (no micro-adaptation, only the UFA reference Slgb003 of the Spring Drive) and an 18k medallion “GS” of 18K rosé gold.

Published in a limited run of 300 pieces and available in October 2025, the Sunrise Tentagraph SLGC006 by Grand Seiko Evolution 9 will be at a prize EUR 23,000. For more information, see Grand-seko.com.
